LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING

FROM: ASPECTS OF LOVE

Love,
Love changes everything:
Hands and faces,
Earth and sky,
Love,
Love changes everything:
How you live and
How you die

Love
Can make the summer fly,
Or a night
Seem like a lifetime.

Yes, Love,
Love changes everything:
Now I tremble
At your name.
Nothing in the
World will ever
Be the same.

Love,
Love changes everything:
Days are longer,
Words mean more.
Love,
Love changes everything:
Pain is deeper
Than before.

Love
Will turn your world around,
And that world
Will last for ever.

Yes, Love,
Love changes everything,
Brings you glory,
Brings you shame.
Nothing in the
World will ever
Be the same.

SPLURGE AND ABSTAIN
Posted at 06:20 AM

my resolution to save money dies a silent, painless death whenever i pass a booksale. i managed to spend P500 on 5 books in the past 2 weeks.

2 mysteries by elizabeth peters. the ape who guards the balance is set in edwardian england/egypt (that's world war I, 1910's) i sooo love emerson and ramses, and amelia peabody never fails to make me chuckle, if not burst into loud laughter. how i wish they'll make it the series into a movie or tv miniseries. the other book, naked once more is set in the 1980's, featuring jacqueline kirby, an ex-librarian turned bestselling author who does some sleuthing on the side.

2 condensed book collections from reader's digest, good buys since the two volumes (P58) contain 8 books in all. one of them has a copy of scarlett, the sequel to gone with the wind.i also liked toy soldiers, about a clever 15 year old boy who foiled a hostage-taker in his boarding school.

1 fantasy by terry brooks, knight of the word, 2nd in a trilogy. i have the first book running with demons somewhere...buried in my so-called book pile in tarlac.

given the exorbitant prices of books in national and powerbooks, it's worth it. since i can read fast (too fast), it's not a good idea to spend a lot for something that i can finish in an hour. most of the books i like are out of print anyway.

2nd hand books are the best!!!

note: accepting the inevitable, i have now allocated a book stipend in my budget.it's as essential as food

postscript: i am abstaining from coffee and coke this week, hyperacidity attacks. waaah. WAAAAAAAAAHH.

NEVER SAY NEVER
Posted at 07:22 AM

Seven years ago, I never, ever, in my wildest imaginings thought that i would:

willingly spend 6 hours in church...before, a one hour mass would give me an attack of adhd/itchy feet midway through the sermon. or voluntarily attend a bible study. or sing alto in a choir and become part of a performing arts ministry. or dream of becoming a tentmaker one day. i never dreamed that i would finally meet Someone who would give me a purpose and unconditional love.

perform for most of my college years with a theater group, experience being stared at by 500 people at a time, and enjoy it. and did i mention that we got paid for it? sana maulit muli.

spend my sem and summer breaks in various Christian camps and retreats all over the Philippines..or that i would have friends from all the regions. i have not forgotten you guys..things have just been quite crazy these past couple of years. it's been almost 4 years since KC...hope we could have a reunion soon. miss you all, ktfhtc

become a full time call girl...er, account manager pala (looks warily around for officemates who might squeal to hr). or be enclosed in a cubicle staring in front of a pc, while wearing office clothes and a headset (ugh), and talking to americans for hours. or work while the rest of the world is in neverland. i am nocturnal, but my activities at night were purely for leisure, not business.

learn to appreciate the beauty of the heavenlies, starbucks and coffee bean (meron na ba nito 7 years ago?), japanese and korean food,  acapela singing, rock and alternative music, foot spas, flowers, pearls and makeup, a sturdy pair of glasses (i miss going without them more), malling, and getting a back massage.

teach English to Koreans (and be paid for it)...naah, never thought i would have the patience to teach at all. now, it's become a calling.

apply for an MA in UP Diliman. after going through the eye of a needle: aka my thesis and five years of undergrad, i thought, ENOUGH is enough. but still...here i am

that i would be sharing my thoughts and mood swings to hundreds of strangers (and lots of friends i hope) over the internet. highschool me:  is a blog edible? use a pc? KABOOM!

just goes to show how much people can change.

TWINGE
Posted at 08:20 AM

i have been spending some of my after-shift free time going through my friends blogs...one friend has been a graduate team volunteer for the past few months, several will go to thailand for a short term missions trp, one is a pastor, another friend and her sister went to URBANA, a lot of them are quite active in the campus ministry, others are studying in fields that would equip them for ministry, etc.

i feel little twinges in my heart as i read their entries...can it be envy?

last month, i refused a couple of opportunities that would lead me down that same path...mainly because i know that i am not ready. career and financial-wise, i am seemingly well off compared to my situation half a year, or even a year ago, and i keep telling myself that things are going to plan. but whose plan? something is missing. or should i say, misplaced?

okay, i know this dryness is mostly my fault, my QT and bs schedule has been very erratic lately. what i want now is to pack up my bible, journal, overnight stuff and food and hie off to the prayer mountain. or at least someplace quiet where i can finally have an SR..it's been 2 years....

i just started another blog in friendster...actually, it's a copy of the one in my first account. both are excerpts from this site, at least the "safe" ones.

it's called tentmaker-in-the-making.

"If a man vows to the Lord...he shall not break his word." Numbers 30:2

TRABAHO LANG
Posted at 08:15 AM

i rarely post in the online forums i visit, but this thread struck a chord...someone started this in peyups:

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

may kilala ba kayong mga UP grads whose jobs you never expected?yung tipong, "bakit tinanggap niya yung work na ganun e UP pa naman siya grad?!"

imagine the maelstrom of reactions that went on in that thread...

MY POST:

what were you thinking?!, based on various posts here, seems to mean a lot of things:

1. for any up graduate, working for call centers, or engaging in any high paying work such as med reps or blue-collar/menial jobs overseas that is not related to your course (qualifier: especially if done for financial reasons)

2. for "tibaks," working for the government or MNC

3. becoming a housewife / househusband

4. not practicing your course, especially if they are in higly specialized fields.

5. not focusing on giving back to the country/society/taxpayers who sent up graduates to school

my two cents:
1. happiness (enjoying your work) is not overrated. by all means, seek a job that would give you fulfillment and purpose.

2. idealism is not an excuse for being irresponsible to your family/dependents

3. raising a family IS  a worthwhile career

4. whatever you call it: profession, work, job, raket, IGP, vocation, calling; it changes because people change, and so do their needs and circumstances. so don't lose hope for those that have been "swallowed by the system." some are just saving up money and experience to be able to do what they really want. don't be too awed by those who do practice their professions. time will come that they too will get stressed and even burned out, and complain about their honorable work.

5. judge not, that ye not be judged.

PET PEEVE
Posted at 08:46 AM

pet:

I am seriously thinking of getting a pet. saw some cute hamsters in a petshop last weekend and am tempted to get a pair. are they durable? i mean, do they die easily? because aside from an iguana and two lovebirds, i never had a pet before. i think i'd like something cuddly. or mebbe a fish is safer? i can bring it to my office and watch it to relieve my boredom.

i'm split between getting something furry or something that swims.

how about a duck-billed platypus?

*****

peeves:

there is this constant knot in my shoulders that is beginning to ache something fierce. hay. an upcoming entrance exam that i have not yet studied for. resolutions i have failed to keep. getting used to sleeping for more than 6 hours (oh no). plus a looming goal/deadline in 8 days. waah.
